Presenting for the first time, the Richard and Katherine Kohrs Scholarship

The new scholarship program will help students through the overarching Abriendo Puertas (Opening Doors) scholarship program.

This new scholarship was made possible by a donor who grew up in Hickory, came back for several years, and wants to give back to his hometown.

Both Richard and Katherine Kohrs were life-long teachers in various states and retired from the Catawba County Schools system. Mr. Kohrs taught social studies at H.M. Arndt Middle School and Mrs. Kohrs taught home economics at St. Stephens High School. Both Kohrs are involved in their church at St. Aloysius and enjoy their involvement in the local Latino community.

Two students, one per academic year, will receive a $500 scholarship to pay for their education costs, like textbooks. This scholarship is in addition to the Abriendo Puertas Scholarship, allowing our committee to grant 4 scholarships for the 2025 scholarship cycle!
